Seasoned food and beverage leader brings his people-first mindset and industry expertise to the brand’s first Restaurant in Asia

SINGAPORE (October 13, 2025) – For Chyn, becoming the first local franchised Owner-Operator of a Chick-fil-A® Restaurant business in Singapore is more than a professional milestone – it’s a culmination of over two decades of operational experience, a personal calling to care for people, and a desire to build something meaningful for the next generation.

Born and raised in Singapore, Chyn built his career across multinational brands in the food and beverage industry. His journey eventually led him to entrepreneurship, running six restaurants under an international sandwich chain for over 17 years – where his franchised locations garnered numerous accolades.

Having led numerous teams over the years, his leadership is grounded in a simple philosophy: take care of people, and they’ll take care of everything else. “What matters in this business,” he says, “is how you make people feel.”

Where heart and skills align

When he first heard about Chick-fil-A’s expansion to Singapore in 2024, Chyn was drawn to the brand’s purpose-driven culture, which deeply aligned with his own values. “Everything about Chick-fil-A felt intentional and genuine,” Chyn recalls of his early impressions. “Even before I applied to be a local Owner-Operator, I could tell this was a company that truly cares – not just about profits or food, but about people.”

He spent time learning more about the brand – reading books by founder S. Truett Cathy and watching stories from local Owner-Operators and Guests around the world – and soon found himself reflecting on the next chapter of his life. Having spent the better part of his career building restaurants, leading teams, and striving to care for people, he asked himself: “What if the next chapter isn’t more of the same, but something that aligns with my heart?”

At a point in his life and career where he had found a steady rhythm, Chyn was ready for a new challenge – especially as he recognized the pivotal life stage his teenage son was entering. He wanted to pursue something that combined his skills with his desire to make a lasting impact, while modelling values through action.

“At this stage of his life, it’s less about what I say, and more about what I do,” he shares. “I want my son to watch me take on something challenging and come out stronger for it.”

Becoming the first independent, franchised Owner-Operator for the Chick-fil-A brand in Asia means stepping into uncharted territory. Far from being daunted by the responsibility, Chyn sees it both as a privilege and an opportunity – to set the tone, to mentor those who may follow, and to bring the brand’s culture of care to life in a way that resonates locally.

A legacy of learning and leadership

That belief in leading by example was shaped by Chyn’s father, a journalist who rose through the ranks to become an editor of one of Singapore’s vernacular newspapers. Chyn credits him with teaching the importance of accountability, restraint, and staying calm under pressure – qualities that continue to shape his leadership style today.

In 2018, Chyn made the decision to donate part of his liver to his father during a medical emergency. The experience transformed not just his health habits, but also his outlook on life. He embarked on a personal journey of regular exercise and a healthier diet, losing 9kg in just eight weeks. It was a life-changing experience that deepened his appreciation for discipline and resilience – qualities he continues to bring into his everyday leadership.

Building a culture of care

As he prepares to welcome Guests to Singapore’s first Chick-fil-A restaurant, Chyn is focused on creating a space where care is felt and Chick-fil-A’s signature hospitality shines through. “To me, hospitality is about showing people they matter. It’s not just speed or efficiency. It’s also in the simple things – like a warm smile, making eye contact with people, and letting them know that they are seen.”

He envisions his Restaurant as a place where people feel at ease, where work is meaningful, and where graciousness and excellence go hand in hand. “It’s about doing good and doing well, and showing Singapore that kindness and care can be just as consistent as speed and quality.”

The same care extends to his Team Members. With years of experience leading large and diverse teams, Chyn sees this next chapter as a Chick-fil-A franchisee as an opportunity to amplify his long-held belief in mentorship and people development, creating an environment where everyone feels safe to try, fail, learn, and grow. Just as he did while managing six restaurants in the past, Chyn plans to stay closely involved in the hiring process – making it a priority to connect with each new hire once they are on board, so he can understand their strengths and potential from the outset.

He’s also committed to offering more than just a job – he wants to provide opportunities for growth through consistent support. Team Members will benefit from a five-day work week, access to personal development opportunities, mentorship, support for education opportunities, and one-on-one support from senior leaders.

Beyond a business venture, Chyn also sees this opportunity as a chance to serve the community and making a lasting difference. He’s excited to partner with local non-profits, support youth development, and participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® food donation program. More information on these community engagement initiatives will be announced soon.

Ask Chyn what he loves most on the Chick-fil-A menu, and his answer is simple: the Original Chick-fil-A® Chicken Sandwich. “It amazed me,” he says. “How can something so simple taste so good? That’s the magic of Chick-fil-A. It’s thoughtful. It’s consistent. It leaves a lasting impression. And that’s exactly the kind of experience I hope to create for every Guest, every day.”
